Apple MacBook Air M2 Review & Spec

Apple MacBook Air M2 Review & Spec

Apple MacBook Air Vs MacBook Air in 2022: The most significant redesign to the line-up of portable laptops since it was first unveiled to the public in 2008, the new 2022 MacBook Air stole the show at this summer’s WWDC.

The MacBook Air has always had a cutting-edge aesthetic. When Steve Jobs first unwrapped the original MacBook Air on stage at Macworld, it was arguably one of his greatest moments of showmanship. However, 15 years has passed since that initial unveiling, which is practically a lifetime in the world of technology. The world of computing has drastically changed since the introduction of tablets and Google’s competing Chromebooks.

Therefore, the new MacBook Air redesign is significant and crucial if Apple wants to maintain the line’s status as the best-selling laptop in the world. The 2022 MacBook Air is released with a point to make, and it does so with a bang. In addition to offering a completely new (yet still ultraportable) design, it also includes the M2 chipset, which represents the latest generation of Apple silicon.

MacBook Air M2 Features

PRICE AND AVAILABILITY: Ordering for the 2022 MacBook Air with M2 chip is open right now, with the product’s shipping and release dates scheduled for July 15, 2022.

A brand-new design for the MacBook Air also means some price adjustments. For the base model with 8GB of RAM, 256GB of SSD storage, and an 8-core CPU/8-core GPU chipset, the M2 MacBook Air now costs $1,199 / £1,249. It’s a $200 / £250 improvement over the previous model. For the step-up model, which comes with a 512GB SSD, 8GB of RAM, an 8-core CPU and 10-core GPU chipset, as well as a dual-port 35W USB-C charger, the price rises to $1,499 or £1,549. The base model only has a single 30-watt charger port.

Keyboard and Trackpad: The Magic Keyboard from the MacBook Air’s predecessor is still in use. Unlike the butterfly keyboards that Apple used in earlier Macs, it has a scissor switch mechanism that can withstand dust and other contaminants without malfunctioning.

A sizable Force Touch trackpad is located below the keyboard and is the same as in previous iterations. Users of the Force Touch trackpad can press anywhere on the trackpad to receive the same response because it lacks conventional buttons and is powered by a set of Force Sensors. Users receive tactile feedback when using the trackpad in place of the physical button press thanks to a taptic engine powered by magnets.

The Force Touch trackpad supports both a light press, which serves as a standard click, and a deeper press, or “force click,” which functions as a different gesture and, among other things, displays definitions for a highlighted word.

Design: Due to thinner side bezels, Apple increased the size of the display on the 2022 MacBook Air, which now measures 13.6 inches. Although it resembles the Retina display from the previous generation, Apple calls the display on the MacBook Air a Liquid Retina display.

Similar to the MacBook Pro, the MacBook Air has a notch to provide access to a 1080p webcam while providing more display space.

The MacBook Air has a resolution of 2560 x 1664, 224 pixels per inch, and 1 billion color support. Its brightness is 500 nits, compared to 400 nits in the model from the previous generation. For vibrant, true-to-life colors, it supports P3 Wide color.

The MacBook Air’s display makes use of True Tone, a technology that adjusts color to better match ambient lighting. The MacBook Air models come with a multi-channel ambient light sensor that is used to power True Tone and can measure both the room’s brightness and color temperature.

Battery Life: Using the Apple TV app to watch movies on the M2 MacBook Air can extend battery life by up to 18 hours, and wireless web browsing can extend battery life by up to 15 hours.

A 30W USB-C power adapter is included with the base model, while a 35W Dual USB-C Port Compact Power Adapter is included with the base model with the 10-core GPU. With a 67W USB-C Power Adapter, the MacBook Air can be fast-charged and charged via MagSafe.

Apple MacBook Air M2 Features

M2 Processor: A direct successor to the M1 processor is the M2. It still uses an 8-core CPU despite being slightly bigger and having more transistors. It comes standard with an 8-core GPU, but it can be upgraded to a 10-core GPU.

Color: For the first time in many years, Apple has added new color options for laptops. As opposed to what we had anticipated, Apple is only offering the new MacBook Air in four colors: silver, space grey, starlight (a sort of champagne gold shade), and midnight (a bluey black), which are all inspired by the colors of the new iPhone SE. Each model includes a MagSafe cable that matches its color.

Speaker and Microphone: Two tweeters and two ultrathin woofers in the four-speaker sound system Apple added to the MacBook Air improve stereo separation and vocal clarity.

Additionally, the MacBook Air supports spatial audio and wide stereo. The built-in speakers can play music or videos with Dolby Atmos and offer spatial audio. The third generation of AirPods, AirPods Pro, and AirPods Max also offer spatial audio with dynamic head tracking.

For improved sound quality on video calls, the MacBook Air also has a three-microphone array with directional beamforming.
